Research Questions Sonogram Fetal Safety

Allie Burkett is seven months pregnant. She drove all the way from Corsicana just to see a 4-D picture of her first baby before it's born. Burkett says, "I wanted to see the distinct features on it, and make sure it was a boy. I just think it would be a neat experience to show the family and friends and have for a keepsake."
New research from Yale University School of Medicine shows this may not be a good idea. In the study sonograms were done on pregnant mice. A small percentage of the mice, that had more than 30 minutes of sonograms throughout their pregnancy, showed negative affects on the development of the fetal brain.
Specifically, some nerve cells didn't migrate to the cerebral cortex like they're supposed to.
But does this mean human fetuses are at risk? Makeba Waller, a licensed vocation nurse at Ultraview Imaging in Arlington, says, "I do 60-70 a month and have never seen any problems in my office."
